Johann Tetzel was a Roman Catholic Dominician Friar.
Tetzel emphasized the Roman Catholic doctrine in regard to indulgences for the dead. He became known for a saying attributed to him: "As soon as a coin in the coffer rings / the soul from purgatory springs." This led to Martin Luther's protest and famous 95 Theses.
