• Emotional Intelligence, Belongingness, and Mental Health in College Students

  Mental health problems are prevalent amongst today’s college students and psychosocial stress has been identified as a strong contributing factor. Conversely, research has documented that emotional intelligence (EQ) is a protective factor for depression, anxiety and stress (mental health problems). However, the underlying mechanism whereby EQ may support stronger mental health is currently not well understood. This study used regression analyses to examine the hypothesis that belongingness (inclusion, rejection) partially mediates the effects of EQ (attention, clarity, repair) on psychological well-being in a large sample (N = 2,094) of undergraduate students. Results supported the mediation hypotheses for all three EQ components and highlighted that the effects of rejection on psychological well-being were particularly strong. In line with prior research, our results indicate that prevention and intervention efforts with college students could explicitly target EQ skills in an effort to reduce perceived rejection and promote student well-being.
• Promoting Well-Being: The Contribution of Emotional Intelligence

  Adopting a primary prevention perspective, this study examines competencies with the potential to enhance well-being and performance among future workers. More specifically, the contributions of ability-based and trait models of emotional intelligence (EI), assessed through well-established measures, to indices of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being were examined for a sample of 157 Italian high school students. The Mayer–Salovey–Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test was used to assess ability-based EI, the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Inventory and the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire were used to assess trait EI, the Positive and Negative Affect Scale and the Satisfaction With Life Scale were used to assess hedonic well-being, and the Meaningful Life Measure was used to assess eudaimonic well-being. The results highlight the contributions of trait EI in explaining both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, after controlling for the effects of fluid intelligence and personality traits. Implications for further research and intervention regarding future workers are discussed.

  Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the cognitive ability of a computer or machine to think and learn. It is imperative to evaluate the extent to which the Artificial Intelligence (AI) can integrate Emotional Intelligence (EI) which is being posited as a facilitator of enhancing millennial engagement. This study is undertaken with two objectives: 1) exploring the extent of use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in financial services and 2) examining AI's role in enhancing a student's experience in learning activities. The methodology of the study is mainly exploratory. The study brings forth certain significant implications of the future of skill development and the ethical issues that require deliberation for purposes of legislation and drafting of public protection policies.
