A Course Guide for ENG 0930

What are citations?

What is a citation?

Citations tell readers where we got information, facts or ideas that came from another source. It gives readers the information necessary to find the location and details of that source.

Why do we need to use citations?

  • To give credit to the authors of the sources
  • To strengthen your argument by providing outside support
  • To provide information about where your reader can find more information about the topic
  • To avoid plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

According to the CT State Student Handbook, plagiarism is "defined as the submission of work by a student for academic credit as one's own work of authorship which contains work of another author without appropriate attribution" (CT State 2023-2024).
