Body (Arguing your claims through synthesis)
As you argue each claim, you should present and synthesize the sources that you have read on this topic, and illuminate how and why you are using the source material to support your own position.
For each claim, please include a topic sentence, which includes your topic/stance and just that claim. Then support the claim with evidence and reasoning, based on thoughtful synthesis of your sources. It is important that you not just regurgitate the ideas of others, but rather to have read the research so thoroughly that you that you are also able to weave in a clear picture of your own argument. This is not an easy task! Use this space to highlight the positions of others to support your argument, but remember that including your own voice and perspective is paramount.
Counterarguments
A counterargument shows the opposing view to your position on an issue. You can also employ synthesis in this part of the essay, but generally the counterargument portion of your paper is more brief than the more complex presentation of your overall argument/position.
