ENG 1030 Composition II and Non-fiction Texts
This course is designed to develop and refine the advanced skills learned in ENG* 1010 that are essential for both academic and professional writing. Emphasis will be on research and writing from data (outside sources). The main areas covered will be exposition, argumentation, and the research paper.
Essay One Topic/Theme: Food
Readings: Food Inc., “Lifeboat Ethics”, or “How Will We Feed the World” and at least 4 additional outside sources, including at least 2 found through the library databases
Essay Focus: Choose an angle from which to analyze a topic related to food, using specific details and examples obtained through research to illustrate your argument.
Thesis: Create an original thesis statement based on your specific argument inspired by our classwork and discussions and your independent research. Your essay must prove your thesis through thoughtful development of your ideas, strong and relevant support, and your original analysis.
Essay Format: Your essay must meet page length requirements (6-8 pages) and be in correct MLA format (see syllabus, handout on format, and submission materials listed above).
