Tunxis Women's Suffrage

This guide describes sources and strategies for research into Women's Suffrage in the United States.

Finding Background Information

Search the Gale Virtual Reference Library for terms, people, concepts, e.g.:

  • suffrage, suffragists or suffragettes
  • anti-suffrage
  • "women's rights" or "voting rights"
  • "19th amendment"

Why Choose a Reference Source?

reference

Reference sources (encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases) give concise introductions to topics. They are a good place to get a history of your issue and place problems and solutions in context.
Use them to:

  • explore topics for research;
  • get background information;
  • explain unfamiliar ideas.

Reference sources are available at the Tunxis Library in both print and online formats.

Access Tips

Sometimes, web links fail and webpages are unresponsive. A few tips to try:

  • If you are off campus, you need to log in to access digital library resources the same way you log in to myCommnet. Your student log in is like a digital library card.
  • If links to library resources do not work, go to myCommnet directly and log in. You will see a tab for My Library Info. Click on Tunxis Library. (If your main student registration is at another CSCU campus, you may need to click on that campus library to use digital resources.) You can use the search box or go directly to a database in the list.
  • If links for a website do not work, use a different browser.
  • You can also try going to the homepage for the website and using a search box to find the specific article you want. Sometimes going through the homepage solves the problem.

And librarians are here to help. From the library website, tunxis.edu/library, click on the yellow Ask Us button to find all the ways to contact a librarian.
