- In an AMA-formatted paper, cited information is noted by SUPERSCRIPT NUMBERS (see figure below). The order of these superscript numbers is based on a source's first appearance in the paper.
- If you use the same reference more than once, repeat the number used when it was first cited. When referencing multiple sources for a single sentence, separate them with commas.
- In the Reference List at the end of the paper, list each reference numerically in the order in which it was first used instead of alphabetically. If you refer to a single source multiple times, it should only be listed once.
