Laptops and Calculators for Semester Loan

Semester Loan Laptop and Calculator Registration & Guidelines

Laptops and calculators are available for home use to NVCC students. If you are in need of a laptop or calculator for educational purposes, you must complete the registration and equipment request Registration and Equipment Request Form. A staff member will contact you to schedule a time to pick up your laptop and/or Hotspot.  

  • Laptops and calculators can be checked out for 1 semester.
  • Renewals for these items are available and must be done in-person.
  • One laptop and calculator per student. 
  • Laptop and calculator use are subject to CT Community College Acceptable Use Policy, and to state and federal laws.
  • Students are responsible for the following replacement fees if there is loss or damage to the laptop, Chromebook, power cord, or Hotspot: 
    • Laptops $800
    • Allied Health laptops $650
    • Laptop power cord $60
    • Chromebook $300
    • Chromebook power cord $25
    • TI-84 Graphing Calculator $100
  • Violation of laptop and calculator policy or the law regarding the use of IT resources may be subject to CT Community College disciplinary and/or legal action.

Laptops and Calculators for On-Campus Use

On-Campus Laptop and Calculator Registration & Guidelines

Laptops are available for check out to NVCC students.  You must be registered with the library and sign a Registration Form available from the Circulation Desk, and one item of collateral (ID, keys) must be left when borrowing.   

  • Laptops and calculators can be checked out for 4 hours.
  • Laptops and calculators can be used anywhere ON campus.
  • Laptops and calculators cannot be taken off campus.
  • One laptop and/or calculator per student. 
  • Laptop use is subject to CT Community College Acceptable Use Policy, and to state and federal laws.
  • Student is responsible for replacement fee of $500 if there is loss or damage to the laptop, and $100 if there is loss or damage to the power cord or calculator.  
  • Violation of laptop policy or the law regarding the use of IT resources may be subject to CT Community College disciplinary and/or legal action. 

Guitars

Guitar Registration & Guidelines

Acoustic guitar kits are available for home use to NVCC students, staff, and faculty.  You must be registered with the library and sign a registration form available from the Circulation Desk. 

  • Guitar kits contain 1 guitar, 1 guitar case, and 1 tuner.
  • Guitar kits can be checked out for 7 days.
  • Guitar kits can be renewed once if there is no waiting list. 
  • Guitar kits can be taken off campus.
  • One guitar kit per person.
  • Borrower is responsible for replacement fee of $200 if there is loss or damage to the guitar, $30 for loss or damage to the guitar case, and $10 if there is loss or damage to the tuner.

Sports Equipment Kits

Game Equipment Kit Registration & Guidelines

Game equipment kits are available for use to NVCC students, staff, and faculty.  You must be registered with the library and sign a registration form available from the Circulation Desk. 

  • Bocce kits include 8 balls (four green, four purple), 1 tape measure, and one pallina.
  • Sports Equipment kits include 4 badminton racquets, 1 volleyball, 3 shuttlecocks, 1 rubber mallet, 1 boundary line spool, 1 boundary line, and 4 poles.
  • Chess/Checkers kits include 1 strategy guide, 34 chess pieces (17 black, 17 white), 1 vinyl board, and 24 checkers pieces.
  • Game equipment kits can be checked out overnight (24 hour loan).
  • Game equipment kits cannot be renewed.
  • Game equipment kits can be taken off campus.
  • Borrower is responsible for replacement fee of $100 if there is loss or damage to a bocce kit, $100 if there is loss or damage to the sports equipment kit, and $55 for loss or damage to the Chess/Checkers kit.

Nooks

Max R. Traurig Library Nook Lending Policy

  • Borrow for 3 weeks, and renew once unless there is a hold placed by another patron.
  • Nooks that are more than seven days overdue are subject to replacement fees detailed below.
  • Limit one device per person at a time.
  • Nooks are for NVCC students- they are not available for faculty, staff, or community borrowers at this time.
  • Do not add or delete eBooks from the eReader- we have preloaded a specific set of eBooks onto each device.
  • Do not set up the personal app account on the library Nook; the library is not responsible for your personal information. 
  • Please recharge the Nook before you return it to the library.
  • Return the Nook to the circulation desk staff directly- please do not put it in the book drop, where it could be damaged and lead to replacement charges.

Picture ID is required during checkout.  By checking out an eReader on your library account, you agree to accept full responsibility for the proper handling, authorized use, and condition of the device until it is checked back in to the library. This includes financial responsibility for the retail value of the device and for any accessories accompanying it if they are lost or damaged.  An NVCC student who has not resolved the problem of lost items will be prevented from registering for classes, requesting a transcript, or graduating from the college.

Replacement Costs:

  • Nook: $200.00
  • Case only: $50.00
  • Power cord only: $50.00
  • Providing a replacement Nook, and accessories (if applicable), along with a $50.00 handling fee, is acceptable.

 All fines and fees should be paid at the college Bursar’s Office.
