Norwalk SIFT Method

The purpose of this guide is to provide information literacy skills so that students can effectively locate and evaluate resources and information.

About Lateral Reading

Lateral Reading means leaving a website to see what others have to say about it, rather than staying within a website to evaluate its reliability, or reading vertically. Checking what other websites say about a source is a better evaluation strategy than trusting what the source says about itself.

Lateral reading can be used to verify a source's credibility and to learn what other sources have to say about the topic.
