Interlibrary Loan Policy

Currently enrolled Gateway Community College students, and current and emeriti faculty and staff may borrow materials or request photocopies of periodical articles from other libraries through interlibrary Loan.  There is no fee for this service. If costs for fee-based document delivery are high, such charges may be passed on to the borrower.  Borrowers will be informed of prospective charges before requests are sent. Patrons must fill out a request form which is located at the Library Service Desk or electronically (booksarticles). In an effort to avoid delays, forms must be filled out as completely as possible. Two attempts will be made to locate requested materials. If both attempts are unsuccessful, the request will be cancelled and the requester notified.

Materials not available for borrowing include but are not limited to Reference books, textbooks, new books and issues of periodicals. Please plan ahead when requesting materials as it could take up to two weeks or more to search, process and receive interlibrary loan items. Patrons may choose to be notified by phone or email when materials arrive. The loan period and renewal options are determined by the lending library. Renewal requests must be made prior to the specified due date. Late return of materials or failure to pick up items may result in the suspension of interlibrary loan services. Lost or damaged materials are the responsibility of the user.

The service is not available to Community Users, GCC Alumni, or Students Enrolled at Other Connecticut Community Colleges. Students are limited to 10 interlibrary loan requests each semester and faculty/staff are limited to 30 borrowed items or periodical requests per semester.
