Tunxis Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

An evolving guide about Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impacts on higher education, teaching, research, and assignments.

A Very Quick Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Opportunities of Artificial Intelligence:

  • AI has some potential utility with summarizing bodies of text such as research articles, product reviews, or assignment drafts.
  • AI may provide some assistance with coding, programming, and scripting work.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) students have been utilizing AI tools to help with translation of complex texts or even casual emails.
  • In a similar fashion to Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Machine Learning, researchers are beginning to use AI for Text Recognition for ancient manuscripts and handwriting from 19th, 18th, 17th centuries and earlier.
  • AI tools may be opening up new avenues for artistic expression and making some forms of art more accessible. At the very least AI generated visual, textual, and auditory artistic output is opening up a wider debate and discussion about the nature and value of art and technology-assisted expression.
