Try these self-paced tutorials developed by Manchester librarians!

Help your students to level-up their library skills and boost their confidence as researchers!

These interactive, self-paced research tutorials are designed to introduce students to key library services and resources, and to the process of conducting academic research. The tutorials cover all "stages" of the research process, including finding, evaluating, writing with, and citing scholarly sources. 

You can add any of the modules below to your Blackboard courses by copying the links. The librarians can also work closely with you to develop custom modules to support your course specific assignments and desired student learning outcomes.

Using Sources in Your Writing: The BEAM Model

This tutorial helps students learn how to effectively integrate sources in their writing using Joseph Bizup’s BEAM model (Background, Exhibit, Argument, Method) to identify the purpose and function of each source within a research paper.

By completing this tutorial students will learn key AI concepts and how generative AI works, the strengths and limitations of generative AI relative to library databases and resources, and how to identify AI tools relevant to academic research and understand their specific capabilities and uses.
