How to Set Up Your Font and Text Size

MLA recommends you choose an easily readable typeface (Times New Roman is just one example) in which the regular type style contrasts clearly with the italic, and set it to anywhere between 11 and 13 points, unless your instructor specifies a different font size.

Generally use the same typeface and type size throughout the paper.


 

To set your font to Times New Roman, 12 point in Word:

  1. Select your text using click and drag or the select all feature
  2. Click the fonts menu and choose Times New Roman
  3. Click the font size menu and chose 12

  1. Select your text using click and drag or the Edit > Select all feature
  2. Click the fonts menu and choose Times New Roman
  3. Click the + or - sign to set font size to 12, or click in the font-size box and use the drop down menu to select 12
