Access to Library Services

The Max R. Traurig Library at Naugatuck Valley offers library services on both campuses. 

The Waterbury Campus computer labs, textbooks, Reading Commons (popular items), DVDs, and Children's Area and staff are fully accessible by elevator. There are handicapped parking spaces located nearby in the P1 and P2 parking garages. The remainder of the book collection in Waterbury is not accessible; patrons wishing to borrow books can request titles and the library staff will be happy to retrieve them. 

The Danbury Campus computer lab, textbooks, and staff are fully accessible by elevator. There are handicapped parking spaces outside of the main building entrance. 

Alternative Formats

Many of the library databases provide downloadable audio files of academic journals, magazines and newspapers. Over 23,000 library eBooks are compatible with screen readers through your ebrary account- please contact Jaime Hammond, Director of Library Services, at 203-575-8199 or jhammond@nv.edu to have your account enabled. Persons with documented print disabilities have access to 65,000 downloadable audio textbooks & literature titles at LearningAlly.org.

Scanning and Photocopying

Printer/scanner stations are located in D201 at the Danbury Campus and on both floors of the Waterbury Campus library. Library staff are available to assist with using the devices.

A scanning station is located on the 5th floor of the library in Waterbury.

Equipment and Software Available in the Libraries

The Libraries offer a variety of tools to assist patrons with low vision or blindness:

  • ZoomText magnifier/screen reader with large print keyboard (5th floor reference area, Waterbury Campus)
  • Clearview+ video magnifier (5th floor reference area, Waterbury Campus)
  • Eye-Pal Solo Low Vision scan and read system (D201 - Danbury Campus)

  • Zoom-EX print-to-audio scanner
  • Victor Reader Stream mp3 player
  • ZoomText large-print keyboard
  • Echo smart pen
