Reflection: Looking Within

Reflection means thinking about your own learning, experiences, or beliefs and how they connect to what you're doing or studying. It involves asking questions like: What did I learn? What changed my thinking? Why does this matter to me or others? What did I do well?

Professors want to see: that you're not just absorbing ideas, but considering how they fit into your perspective or growth. Reflection shows that you're becoming a more self-aware and intentional learner.

You're using reflection skills when you...

  • Connect course materials to your own experiences and values
  • Think about what you might do differently next time and why
  • Write about how your thinking has changed after reading, discussions, or research
  • Think about why a topic matters - to you, your community, or in a broader context
