How the QV Library Can Help You

The CT State - QV Library is here to help you find sources for your assignments.  Through the QV Library you have access to:

Need a Laptop to Complete Coursework?

Success in a college program requires using a laptop or desktop! A smartphone, tablet, or Chromebook is not enough.

If you cannot complete your coursework because you have no laptop or because your laptop is too old to handle the necessary software, the QV Library has a FREE  laptop lending program, while supplies last.

Once you are registered for class(es), complete the online QVCC Technology Request Form to get your name on the waiting list.  Completing the form takes just 3-5 minutes.

If you already received a laptop for the Fall semester and would like to request a renewal for the Spring semester please follow the instructions provided on our QV Campus Library borrowed equipment handout.  You can find this handout below, or in your college email.

Book Request and Pick Up

Sometimes a book you need for your assignment is not available at your campus or through QV

You can easily request that book and choose the QV campus where you would like to pick it up

Navigate to the QV Library Homepage https://library.ctstate.edu/quinebaugvalley

Then search the library catalog for a book that will be useful for your assignment

If you do not have a book you can use in the QV catalog, search the other CSCU Consortium libraries by clicking the drop down on the right of your search bar and choosing CSCU Library Consortium

Look to the left of your results and click beside either box for Physical or Books and click Apply

Now you will see only physical books you could borrow from other CSCU Libraries

Browse the results until you have found a book that will help you

Look for the Check Holdings link under the book title

If you have not signed into your library account you will see the libraries that you can borrow the book from but not the request button

Sign in to your library account with the same userID and password you use for Blackboard to get the Request button

Once you have signed in you are ready to request the book

Make sure to request the book using the blue button to ensure you get all the delivery options

The delivery location you choose can be whichever campus you want to pick the book up from

Once the book arrives at QV you will receive an email that the book is ready for you to pickup

If you requested to pick up the book at the Danielson campus you an stop by the Library anytime during open hours

If you requested to pick up the book in Willimantic, the library will contact you to arrange a pick up time, as well as tell you where the book will be waiting in the Willimantic Center

If you have any questions please contact the library!

Keeping Track of your Research

Research we do for an academic assignment is not the same thing as research we do at home.  Think about the last few things you asked a search engine.  Most of the time we look for things like: what other movies is this actor in, what's the phone number for my vet's office, where is the nearest Mexican restaurant, etc.  All of these searches are quick because we have a specific question that can be answered using one web site.

Now think about what you are asked to find for your academic assignments.  The first big difference is that you are unlikely to be asked to find a specific answer that only uses one web page to answer.  More likely, you will be asked to find multiple sources to formulate your own, individual answer.  This means that academic research just takes longer, and that's fine. You will also be expected to keep track of where you got the information to create your answer.

If research is going to take us longer than we are used to, we want to make sure that we do not accidentally redo our research when our research occurs in chunks over multiple days or weeks.  We also want to make sure that we do not redo our research when it comes time to acknowledge the sources we used to create our answer.

This Research Tracking Worksheet will help you keep track of all the steps that are a part of academic research as well as giving you a place to save your research as you go.  We recommend that you save another copy of this worksheet whenever you have a research project.
