How can a Library Subject Guide Help Me

You may have heard a librarian or your professor talk about a library LibGuide.  But what is that and how can it help you?

A subject guide, also called a LibGuide, is a tool that librarians use to help students using the library to complete their research assignments.  Librarians work with professors to figure out what students need to complete research assignments.  Subject guides will help:

  • form a search strategy including identifying important aspects of a topic and identifying search terms
  • determining which databases to use for different assignments
  • evaluating online sources to determine which ones are appropriate for college level research projects
  • how to create in text citations and citations at the end of your paper
  • how to format an assignment to match a citation style
  • tips for completing research for particular classes and assignments

All of these aspects of research will be centralized onto a single page for each course.  They are available 24/7  to help researchers when libraries are closed.

Browse the list of CT State QV Subject Guides to see which ones might be useful for which assignments.
