Faculty Attend Health Information Conference; Students Recognized

CT State Middlesex Health Information Management faculty attended the Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA) Annual Conference, which took place at the Hogan Center at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., on June 16, 2025.

Becky VillikyDuring the annual awards presentation, 2025 Health Information Technology graduate Rebecca Velliky received the MaHIMA 2025 Student Achievement Award.

“The conference featured a range of timely and relevant presentations, including sessions on leadership development, social determinants of health, emerging technologies, and a legislative update,” said Professor Jill Flanigan, program coordinator for Health Information Management, who attended the conference with Professor Elaine Ippolito, chair of the MaHIMA mentorship program.

Professor Flanigan noted that two recent graduates also at the conference earned professional credentials from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) this year and were welcomed as new members of the profession. Christian Bystrek (Health Information Technology, Class of 2024) achieved the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential, and Korey McEneany (Clinical Coding Certificate, Class of 2024) earned the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential.

To celebrate MaHIMA’s 95th anniversary, a special historical presentation honored founder Grace Whiting Myers, who served as medical record librarian at Massachusetts General Hospital (1897–1924) and founded the organization that became AHIMA.
