CT State Middlesex has unveiled a new Mamava lactation pod to meet the needs of breastfeeding parents. The campus is proud to be a leader in taking a progressive stance to improve lactation support for the college community.
“We have partnered with Mamava, the leading expert in lactation space design. This pod is located at the rear of the cafeteria and will afford breastfeeding employees, students and guests a private and comfortable pod for pumping or nursing,” said Ed Tessman, Associate Dean for Campus Operations, Finance and Administrative Services.
Connecticut is a breastfeeding-positive state with workplace lactation accommodation laws that exceed the federal FLSA’s Federal PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act. Mamava meets the requirements of the Connecticut State Lactation Law, the federal PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and the Fairness for Breastfeeding Mothers Act and is ADA compliant.
Mamava is transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more parents to pump or nurse at work and on the go. Mamava lactation pods are freestanding spaces intentionally designed with easy-to-clean surfaces and conveniently placed outlets to provide a comfortable and private option to breastfeed or pump.
“We’re thrilled to support breastfeeding at CT State Middlesex said Sascha Mayer, cofounder of Mamava. “We believe that all breastfeeding parents deserve a dignified place to breast pump or feed a baby distraction-free—anywhere, anytime. CT State Middlesex is helping normalize breastfeeding and increasing equitable access to lactation support for the next generation.”
