The Reconstruction Amendments

The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution are collectively known as the "Reconstruction Amendments" as the Amendments were passed following the Civil War during Southern Reconstruction. This is important as the enforcement of Reconstruction laws and policies prevented the involvement of many of the pro-slavery, anti-Black politicians in the South in the drafting, debate, and adoption of these amendments either through explicit exclusion due to their role in the South's insurrection or indirectly through the prevention of intimidation through racial violence that would come to dominate the post-Reconstruction political regime in these states.
