Who Can Borrow From Tunxis Library?

Borrowing privileges are automatically granted to current students, faculty, and staff of the CT State Community Colleges (including Charter Oak) and Universities. Anyone else who is a current Connecticut resident is welcome to apply to become a guest borrower.

Specific information about loan policies for students, faculty, and staff can be found here.

Specific information about loan policies for guests and alumni can be found here.

Reminder and Overdue Notices

As a courtesy, the library will email you a reminder notice 3 days before an item's due date.

Most items are automatically renewed once.

An overdue notice is mailed to you, via USPS, 7 days following the due date.

You are responsible for paying library fines (if fines apply) whether or not you receive the notice.

Overdue notices are sent to patrons as a courtesy.

The library does not assume responsibility for fines resulting from unread mail or email.

You can obtain due date information by logging into your library account.

Tunxis students must assure that email from @txcc.commnet.edu address is not diverted to spam.

Notices about library material are sent to the Tunxis email addresses of students, faculty, and staff.

Tunxis Library notices for guests and alumni are sent to the patron’s personal email.

Renewing Your Items

Books, DVDs, and Audiobooks are automatically renewed one time if there are no holds on the item. If you need additional time, please call 860-773-1550 or bring in the item(s) and we'll be happy to extend the due date.

Please note that items cannot be renewed online if:

  • The item is on hold for another patron
  • The item has already been renewed
  • A patron has fines of $5 or more
  • A patron has 2 or more overdue items
  • A patron has a lost item
  • A patron's card has expired

If you are a community borrower, please call us (860-773-1550) and we can help you with your login information.

Placing a Hold on an Item

If an item is checked out, a "hold" may be placed online, by phone, or in-person at the Circulation Desk. When the item is returned to the Library, you will be notified by phone or email.

To place a hold online, find the item in the catalog, sign in with your NetID/Password, and then click the "Request from Tunxis" button, as shown below:

If the item is available at a partner library and you don't want to wait, click "Request from Tunxis Partner" to have the item sent to the Tunxis Library.
