What Can Be Borrowed via Interlibrary Loan

To request items from other libraries in the Consortium, follow the instructions in the second box.

If a material is not available from a Consortium Library, fill out our ILL request form.

Each library determines which materials it will borrow/loan. Most materials can be requested through interlibrary loan.

The following material cannot be borrowed through interlibrary loan:

  • Material that is already available in our collection
  • Textbooks
  • Whole issues of a periodical or journal
  • Articles available in full text in our periodical databases
  • Other material as determined by the lending library or library staff

The following material generally cannot be borrowed through interlibrary loan:

  • Reference books
  • Rare, fragile, or unique items that may be difficult to replace
  • Newly published best sellers
  • Theses and dissertations
  • Audiovisual materials such as CDs, videos, Audiobooks, and DVDs

Requesting Consortium Materials

The Consortium Loan service is available to the current students, faculty, and staff at the CT State Community College, the State universities, and Charter Oak.

How to Place a Consortium Loan Request

Search the catalog for materials located at Consortium partner libraries. Be sure to select “CSCU & Partners” in the drop down menu next to the search bar and sign in to your account.

Click on the item you would like to request, and scroll down to “Request From Tunxis Partner” and submit your request. You will be notified by email when the item is ready for pickup.

Interlibrary Loan from Non-Consortium Libraries

Use this form to request an item unavailable in a Consortium library.

We provide extensive interlibrary loan services to Tunxis students, faculty and staff. Using a variety of databases, library staff identify and borrow materials from thousands of libraries nationwide.

Please check the Tunxis Library Catalog and Online Resources to make sure we do not already own or have access to the item prior to initiating a request.

Student requests are limited to 5 items per month. The length of time needed to obtain materials varies. Most items can be obtained in about 7 days. There are times when materials arrive earlier and times when it takes longer. Please plan accordingly.

Note: Faculty, staff, and students enrolled at other institutions of higher education are encouraged to explore the availability of collections and services at their place of study.

Copyright law limits the number of photocopied articles that can be borrowed through interlibrary loan. Once we have reached our limit, we will inform you what the closest library owning that title is.
