Indirect Causes to World War I

​Europe between 1850-1912 had the following situations occur:

  1. Europe in Turmoil, rise of absolute rule.
  2. The formation of hostile alliances, Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Italy) vs Triple Ente or Entente Cordiale (Russia, England and France).
  3. Unification of Germany in 1871  Italy unified soon after.
  4. Desire for national greatness among European powers.
  5. Decline of Ottoman Empire led to expansion in the Balkans.
  6. 1913 had second Balkan War.

    But the direct cause was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand from Austria on June 28,1914.
