Freedom of expression is protected by the Constitution of the United States. The freedom to read is essential to our democracy.

The library supports the free exchange of ideas by providing access to a selection of materials and resources on all subjects that support the college's mission. Within budgetary constraints, the library strives to balance access to, and ownership of, information resources that offer the widest possible range of viewpoints. Collection development and material/resource selection are undertaken in accordance with the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read Statement, and the Freedom to View Statement.

The campus library director will meet with any library user who wishes to formally request the removal of a specific item or items from the library's collection. If the user wishes to pursue the challenge following this meeting, the campus library director will provide the user with access to a "request for reconsideration" form indicating the specific reason(s) for the complaint. Upon receipt of the completed form, the Director will review the request and provide a written response within 15 business days.

In questions of intellectual freedom and censorship, the library adheres closely to the values expressed in the American Library Association’s guiding documents, referenced above. A copy of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Manual is available in the library.
