Stand for the Banned Read Out

Requests to ban books from all types of libraries has been skyrocketing in recent years, reaching the highest number of requested book bans in 2022. According to the American Library Association in 2020 there were 156 attempts to ban a book at a library, in 2021 that number climbed to 729, and in 2022 the number is up to 1269.

So how do we stand up against this type of censorship? Join us for the QV Stand for the Banned Read Out on October 5th from 6-7PM. Celebrate books that at some time or place have been banned from a library. Read a short passage from your favorite banned book or listen to the readings from other members of our QV Campus community.

If you are joining us with your class, talk to your professor about your favorite banned books. If you are joining us because you are passionate about books, censorship, or if this just sounds like fun, sign up to help us ensure everyone has a chance to share.

You can also grab a quick coffee or some baked goods to enjoy while you're listening. Or take a picture at our Banned Book Selfie station. We will also have banned books pins that you can use to show your support for reading banned books all year long.
