REBECCA LOEW

Professor, Behavioral Sciences & Coordinator for Sociology & Anthropology
Rebecca LoewProfessor Rebecca Loew has many years of experience in higher education, both as a student and as faculty. She earned an AB in sociology, cum laude, from Vassar College, a master’s in public administration from Columbia University, and a PhD in social policy from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. She has taught at the University of Lowell, Brandeis and Tufts universities, and Union College, and was a faculty member in the Graduate School of Social Work at Adelphi University. Among her varied teaching experiences, she ranks her work at Middlesex as the most rewarding and interesting. At Middlesex, she teaches courses in sociology and psychology and advises the Human Services Student Association (HSSA).

Dr. Loew’s expertise is in social policy and aging. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, monographs, and reports, and has presented her work at several professional meetings. Aside from her academic roles, Dr. Loew has been involved in policy analysis for research, lobbying, and philanthropic organizations, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Healthcare Association of New York State. She is civically engaged and serves on the boards of several community organizations.

For fun, Dr. Loew likes to swim, listen to music, read, and practice yoga. She loves to travel and has done so extensively. She enjoys life near the shoreline with her husband, three active children, and two cantankerous cats.
