Professor, Early Childhood Education
Dr. Ijego V. Nwachuku is a professor in the Early Childhood and Education program at Middlesex.
Before her full tenure, Dr. Nwachuku served in various positions at Southern Connecticut State University’s School of Education including assistant professor, community outreach coordinator for the early childhood education/violent prevention counseling grant (ECE/VPC), and as minority visiting scholar. She was an adjunct faculty member at Gateway and was the executive director for New Haven’s Child Development Program.
Her additional professional experience includes serving as substitute teacher in the Head Start program in Goldsboro, North Carolina, as a licensed childcare provider and consultant, and as teacher and nutrition assistant for the childcare system at the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Nwachuku earned a doctorate of education and a master’s in early childhood education and development from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She also received a bachelor of science in human nutrition and food science from UMass.

She is an active community leader and a consistent contributor to several national and international professional committees. She developed and presented professional papers in regional, state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Nwachuku has many articles and book manuscripts in progress especially in the areas of moral development through folktales, figures of speech, as well as infant feeding and development.
