When Shane decided to continue his education, he was looking for a way to do what he enjoys while finding a career path that he was excited to pursue. Shane’s biggest factors in choosing Middlesex were the affordability and how close it is to home. He also heard really great things about the college from a number of people and a lot of the programs appealed to him.
Shane feels the most important thing he has learned from attending courses in the Center for New Media is having a proper workflow and managing his time and assets properly. The professors are a big part of that learning process.
He faced a lot of different challenges and obstacles growing up, which resulted in not receiving a high school diploma despite four years at Middletown High.
But, while Shane was living with his friend’s parents, they encouraged him to go to Adult Education and finish earning his high school diploma. After that, he moved to Michigan where things did not go well and came back home to Connecticut. Shane got a job, started going to therapy and signed up for classes at Middlesex to pursue something he had always wanted to.
Since then, Shane said he has never been in a better position than he is now. He is so grateful for all the people who stuck by his side and supported him along the way. This includes a number of students and faculty at Middlesex. He said he is proud to not only call them his friends but mentors, confidants and loved ones as well.
Shane was named to the dean’s list every semester and earned a 3.87 GPA. He was the president of the Film & Media Club and the secretary of the SPEAK Club. He looks forward to taking the audio production class and an internship at WFSB-Channel 3 Eyewitness News.
Shane is planning to graduate with an associate degree in Digital Media Production with two certificates, one in News & Sports and the other for Film & Video at the end of Spring 2020. Right after, he hopes to get his career started in the industry and continue his education and eventually become a teacher himself.
When Shane is not in school, he loves a good book or a movie. Video games are always fun, but he probably spends the majority of his free time listening to/watching podcasts.
